There’s been a settlement at Rovinj, an ancient town with a rich history, one of the most developed tourist resorts in Croatia, since as far back as the seventh century. But only relatively recently has it become a magnet for holidaymakers, who are enticed here by the fragrant Mediterranean forests and warm, shingle-mottled beaches. Enter Hotel Lone - the first design conscious hotel in the region that will cater to business travelers.

Built to look like a luxurious ocean liner floating on the hillside, Maistra Inc’s 248-bedroom hotel is a Y-shaped minimalist delight wrapped by tall ancient trees. And although it might not be apparent at first glance, the area’s unique natural landscape has influenced the entire design concept at Hotel Lone. Inside, large mirrors cling to the walls at seemingly random intervals, letting reflections of the external environment, including forest greenery and ambient light, seep into the building through sweeping glass panes. The tall and airy main lobby is dressed in white-beige stone, the color of the region’s beaches, and set off by soft, sandy-yellow furnishings. Self-assured contrasts are a major component of Hotel Lone’s overall design ethos, too – a fact you’ll notice as soon as you see the alternate black-and-silver stripes of the curved exterior. From the stark white stairways to the lobby’s rich and leafy painted mural, it’s a theme that runs throughout the building.

By teaming up with collaborative architecture studio 3LHD, Maistra Inc has managed to create inspirational places for guests to relax and share thoughts. Nowhere is this more obvious than in the hotel’s huge conference center, which includes a 650-seater auditorium, making it one of the most impressive in the whole Adriatic region. Here, minimalism, elegance and state-of-the-art facilities combine, making successful business meetings a breeze.

Thanks to the unconventional shape of the hotel, each of the bedrooms affords an invigorating sea or park view. For the ultimate hideaway, guests in need of solace should head to the indulgent spa, where natural tones of wood, stone, water and gold create an atmosphere of timeless tranquility. Spend time here and you’ll realize that at last, there’s a chic place for business travelers in this special part of the world.
