HOT DEALS AND NEW HOTELS
When local deep-snow and synchronized skiing hero Sigi Grüner turned hotelier, he ordered the complete demolition of Sölden’s old Bergland Hotel in favor of another refurbishment. The result of its rebirth was a self-contained playground for active travelers and adrenalin-seekers that come here to carve down some of Austria’s highest peaks on skis and bikes.
Crafted by local tradespeople, the new 86-room resort has subtle hints of old Austria, such as rocking chairs and oiled oak floors. But the main concept – that is, that all of the ingredients for an active and stress-free holiday should be kept under one roof – aligns with 21st century values. Next to the main entrance, there’s a direct lift to the ski slopes and an in-house sports shop gives guests the flexibility to turn up empty handed and still enjoy a day of skiing, mountain or race biking, hiking or other outdoor activities in Tyrol’s Ötztal Valley.
Herbs from the hotel’s Alpine garden are used at the 1,700 sqm Sky Spa, high above the rooftops of Sölden, where treatments are based on promoting lasting wellbeing rather than voguish health fads. Massages and beauty therapies are often followed by raw snacks and cups of herbal tea at the poolside Sky Bar, with its clued-up staff and a chilled atmosphere. After an active day, guests can refuel at one of the hotel’s three restaurants.
Relax through the vast array of activities on offer at Bergland Hotel Sölden, a destination for health-conscious travelers that makes the best of its location in one of Austria’s most popular year-round resorts.
