MEET THE ORIGINAL: SIGI & ELISABETH GRÜNER

Trained carpenter and former world champion deep-snow and synchronized skier Sigi Grüner was born and raised in Sölden. During his competitive career he traveled the world as a ski instructor, but he always kept his hometown close to his heart. He is deeply passionate about preserving the traditions of Austria’s mountain farmers, and even today – when he’s not busy with Bergland Hotel Sölden’s incredible rebirth as an all-in-one destination for active travelers – he continues to farm sheep. Through guided tours and a hands-on approach to customer service at the hotel, he’s able to share his extensive knowledge of the region with his guests. His wife, Elisabeth Grüner, who also shares the role of General Manager with her husband, comes from Sölden’s well-known Falkner family, who own several hotels and have run the mountain railway since 1948. The Falkners play a key role in the success of Sölden as a tourist destination and also invested in the Bergland Hotel Sölden to restore it to its former glory.
