In searching for a way to reflect Curaçao’s unique cultural heritage, renowned Dutch designer Jan des Bouvrie found the solution by mixing Dutch colonial design with Caribbean flair – befitting the colonial history of Curaçao as the most important of the Dutch Antilles islands.
Clean lines and open spaces combine with exotic touches and Art Deco features. Since opening in 2001, it has wooed many international guests setting foot on the island.
Bouvrie’s modern translation of classic comfort is on full display throughout the property’s suites, painted in cool, subtle tones and featuring dark wooden furniture. Each suite features stone floors, mahogany doors and custom-made neo-colonial furniture, including pieces from the designer’s Treco/Castelijn and Young collections. Refuge from the glaring sun can be found on each room’s private patio, where guests can chill out in the pleasant shade. The splendid tropical garden was carefully landscaped by Diana Henriquez de Fernandez and creates the perfect setting for meandering along the shady pathways to the beautifully shaped pool area. The swimming pool itself is a Caribbean version of a Roman bath, made up of several interconnecting squares of Bisazza glass mosaics in various colours. If you’re after the kind of refreshing experience only the open sea can offer, then head over to the hotel’s private beach which, incidentally, is also one of the most sought-after on Curaçao. |
