Koh Samui's most famous sight is the twelve-meter high gilded Buddha statue at the Wat Phra Yai. The smaller Buddha at the Wat Laem Sor draws fewer tourists, but is also well worth a visit; close to the temple the ruins of an old mountain Chedi await travellers who dare to leave the beaten path. A must-see is the circular road that connects the various areas of Koh Sumai and circumvents the island. The capital city, Nathon, has a number of old, charming houses, while the Wat Plai Laem is famous for its colourful 18-armed Buddha that sits in the middle of a pleasant fish lake (fish food is available at the temple).
