The Thai city of Nakhon Ratchasima, mostly called Korat due to its ancient name, Korakapura, is located on the western edge of the Korat Plateau.

The city has a number of interesting Wats (temples), among them the Wat Sala Loi, resembling a junk ship, and the Wat Payap with its Chinese-style roofs. The colourful Sao Lak Mueang, or city pillar shrine, is a place of worship to the city deity. The ruins of the Khmer Prasat Hin Wat Phanom Wan, dating to the 10th century, are located near Nakhon Ratchasima.
