HOT DEALS AND NEW HOTELS
Combining a sense of artistic whimsy with cutting-edge design, the new Wanderlust in Singapore’s Little India was created with adventurous travelers in mind. Hotel owner Loh Lik Peng, a local hero after the success of his New Majestic Hotel, gave four different design firms each a floor to create their own interpretation of contemporary style and comfort. Designed by Asylum, the lobby has a glam industrial vibe and the hotel’s casual French restaurant Cocotte has been an instant hit with the locals. Upstairs, the 29 guest rooms run the gamut from vivid candy colors (Phunk Studio) and arty black-and-white minimalism (DP Architects), to one-of-a-kind duplex apartments (fFurious), guaranteed to give guests sweet dreams.
Set in a historic 1920s building, the Wanderlust’s beautiful Art Nouveau mosaic on its façade hints at the cheeky patchwork of 21st-century design it now houses within. The hotel’s location in the city’s colorful Little India neighborhood is the first hint that Loh, a former lawyer-turned-hotelier is committed to showing guests a livelier side of Singapore beyond the buttoned-up business and shopping districts.
With eye-popping design and friendly service, Wanderlust delivers on the owner Loh Lik Peng’s desire that his hotels be like “playgrounds for grown-ups.”
