Oita is located on the Japanese island of Kyushu. The city itself has a fine aquarium, the Marine Palace, and a Castle Ruins Park around the Funai Castle.

The prefecture of Oita is famous for its hot springs (onsen) and colourful baths, mainly located close to the cities of Yufu and Beppu, the latter of which is also noted for its 1957 transmission tower, its cable car connecting the city with the Aso-Kuju National Park on top of Mt. Tsurumi, and Harmony Land, a family-oriented theme park.
