At around 9 million inhabitants, Jakarta is one of the world’s most populous metropolises. It is home to the National Museum, located inside an 1868 building once known as the “Elephant House”. The Wayang-Museum displays puppets used for the traditional marionette theatre. Borobudur, also located on the island of Java, is an impressive 9th century Buddhist Mahayana monument. The city of Bogor has a famous Botanical Garden that houses a number of international research institutions.
