DESCRIPTION
The Uma Ubud is a cliff-top Indonesian resort located in the heart of Bali. Its 24 rooms all come with either terrace or courtyard gardens, and three of its four Uma Suites come with private, infinity-edge pools. The ultimate accommodation, though, is the COMO Suite, equipped with both a private treatment area and the hotel’s most magnificent pool. All 29 lodgings come with open-air bathroom, broadband Internet, 21-inch flat-screen satellite TV, DVD player, coffee- and tea-making facilities, yoga mat and COMO Shambhala bathroom amenities. The resort’s remaining buildings are occupied by the reception and lobby area, the Kemiri restaurant and bar and the COMO Shambhala Retreat, where guests are invited to nurture and pamper both body and mind in soothing meditation bales, steam rooms, sauna, reflexology area, fully-equipped gym and 25-metre jade green pool. In four treatment rooms, they can also enjoy a variety of Asian-based therapies ranging from facials to massages, all delivered by experienced practitioners who customise treatments according to individual needs. Last but not least, the best views in the resort can be enjoyed from the Retreat’s open-air yoga pavilion, where complimentary classes are held daily and additional yoga tuition is available at all levels.
But peace, quiet and relaxation are not all that the Uma Ubud has to offer. At the open-air Kemiri restaurant, Australian chef Chris Miller serves traditional Balinese dishes and modern interpretations of Southeast Asian cuisine using well-sourced, seasonal and vitamin-rich ingredients from local suppliers. The local, English-speaking Uma Ubud team is always happy to introduce guests to the native culture, be it at a traditional temple ceremony, exciting Kecak fire dance or Gamelan orchestra concert. Every morning, the staff even offers a complimentary guided walking tour through the rice paddies and tropical fauna surrounding the resort. And for those seeking something a bit more cosmopolitan, the numerous shops, galleries, restaurants and museums of Ubud are only a 20-minute walk or 5-minute drive away.
LOCATION OF UMA UBUD
Uma Ubud is located in the centre of Bali. This extraordinary Indonesian island is spliced by a volcanic mountain chain which divides the quiet north coast, where the foothills fall into the Bali Sea, from the busy south coast, where fertile rice paddies sloped gently down towards the Indian Ocean. At its heart lies Ubud, a small but lively town regarded as the island’s cultural hub.
The hotel, occupying a three-hectare site, is hidden on the fringe of Ubud, overlooking the Tjampuhan Valley amid paddy fields carved out of hillsides, backed by coconut palms and banyan trees. The river Oos runs below; to one side stands a mountain. There is no sound of traffic. The town, where there are numerous shops, galleries and local restaurants, is a five-minute drive, or 20-minute walk.
Denpasar International Airport is a 60-minute drive from Uma Ubud.
