Volcanic stone, shimmering blue pools and luscious tracts of greenery: Bali’s natural treasures have left their mark on delMango Villa Estate, an eco-friendly enclave in the beating heart of Seminyak. But this discreet hideaway, designed by internationally acclaimed Balinese architect Yoka Sara and Nobuyuki Narabayashi (formerly a creative director at pioneering Japanese design group Super Potato), is aimed squarely at guests seeking urban comforts.

There are 12 self-contained villas, linked together by cool timber decks and shaded by curvy, white-stone roofs. With between one and three bedrooms each, the villas vary in size, but the rounded Neo-Balinese styling remains constant, inviting natural daylight into every open space. Stepping out on the patio, guests can drop effortlessly into their own chlorine-free pool or lounge lazily in the flower-filled gardens, surfing the net on one of the hotel’s complimentary iPads.

Ronny Tome and Mario Hintermayer were working hard to establish their own kind of tropical retreat – a place where guests would receive attentive five-star service and stay in private, self-contained villas. To this end, Touched spa offers traditional therapies in touch with nature along with Tai Chi, Zumba and even Gyro Tonics to work on the body, mind and soul. When devising the delMango concept, they have made sustainability their central consideration. So from the Indonesian stone and recycled teak artworks in the bedrooms, to the natural black volcanic stone floors in the all-day dining lounge, the focus is on local, environmentally friendly materials.
