MEET THE ORIGINAL: MARK EDLESON

Immediately following his graduation from Stanford University, Alila Hotels & Resorts CEO Mark Edleson, joined the Peace Corps in Malaysia. He later returned to Asia with Citibank before deciding to pursue his own ventures in 1983. He states, “From my first stay to the present day, what most attracts me is the link that Asia embraces between its rich, colourful past and the future.” With his commitment to cross-cultural exchange, sustainability and business, Edleson established the Alila Hotel group to unify these ideals. By sharing these passions with his guests Edleson hopes to send them home with “spiritual and emotional memories, not just souvenirs.”
