The Indonesian island of Bali is known for its tropical beauty and its rich heritage of architecture and in the arts.
MORE
Traditional Balinese architecture is a mixture of Indian and Polynesian influences; there is no shortage of temples and religious and mythological statues on the island, and the palaces of the royalties are famous for their lush, detailed style. Denpasar, the provincial capital, is not only home to the Bali museum, which offers information about old and new architectural styles, but also of the Pura Luhur Uluwatu, one of the finest examples of Balinese traditional architecture. Many of the local houses celebrating the art of tropical living are also worth a look. A good number of the contemporary hotels are architecturally located on the fine, fascinating line between kitsch and the sublime. The town of Ubud, located north of Denpasar, also hosts a number of fine museums.
