MEET THE ORIGINAL: NIKHILENDRA SINGH

The biographies of RAAS’ two sibling founders are straight from a Merchant Ivory script. Their status as cousins of the local Maharaja places them squarely in Rajasthan’s upper tier, but the real romance emanates from Nikhilendra and Dhananajaya Singh’s personal lives. It was Cambridge History graduate and author Dhananajaya who secured the purchase of RAAS, while Nikhilendra brought decades of hospitality experience to his globetrotting, polo-playing life and directorship of an events company whose clients include Elizabeth Hurley and Julia Roberts. RAAS combines this glamour and poise with the brothers’ geniality. “It’s exclusive without being elitist,” says Nikhilendra – a phrase equally applicable to them both.
