ARCHITECTURE / DESIGN

Allies and Morrison
Hundredhands

The Alila Bangalore Hotel & Residence emulates the work-life balance by providing luxury facilities for both business and leisure. With its suburban address in Whitefield, a thriving bastion of India’s technological industry, the twelve-story building was designed by the architecture company Allies and Morrison, whose portfolio includes additions to the Tate Britain, among other notable projects. The hotel’s elegantly composed interior achieves a relaxing ambiance that’s nonetheless conducive to its guests’ demanding agendas. Designed by the Indian firm Hundredhands, natural materials dominate the hotel’s interiors, adorned with occasional flourishes of decorative Indian patterns.

The Tiffin Bar’s cozy café atmosphere affords guests a comfortable lounge for morning pastries and all-day brunch, while the Tiffin Room serves eclectic eastern cuisine in a spacious, airy restaurant decorated in neutral shades of beige and oak. For casual dining, the Tiffin Grill provides an outdoor setting with views of the surrounding landscape. In addition, guests can sip cocktails at the High 5 Tapas Bar and Lounge, while enjoying the infinity pool and views over downtown Bangalore.

All of the Alila Bangalore’s 101 guest studios have private balconies, while the hotel’s 12 Soho Suites offer separate living rooms equipped with meeting tables for in-house meetings, as well as guest bathrooms. In addition, seven Leisure Suites include private studies adjoined to a spacious bedroom, bathroom and terrace. The hotel also offers two 2 Alila Residences, featuring a living room, kitchen, three bedrooms, a library and a large balcony.

Rich fabrics in deep crimsons, shades of gold and forest green add a bit of drama to the suites’ warm, earthy aesthetic. Glass walled showers and geometric accents like wooden grid paneling augment the overall minimalism that underscores each room’s elegant layout. The design emphasizes clean lines, natural light and touches of oriental exoticism, recalling traditional Indian textiles of decorative ornate pattern.
