Right from the hammocks hanging outside each cabaña, you will be immersed in the flora and fauna, swinging gently into the laid-back rhythm of life in Tulum. The 80-cabañas possess a rustic charm and celebrate the luxury of simplicity, with something to suit every need and budget – from casitas with large private terraces, to modest shared jungle cabañas with bunk beds and a communal bathhouse. Families and groups of friends can claim their own private paradise by booking a cluster of cabañas or the Beach House, a cliff-top hideaway that boasts a private plunge pool, meditation balcony and a natural cave.

The Papaya Playa Beach Club overlooks the azure waters, where diners can enjoy hyperlocal cuisine with fresh fish caught off the coast and herbs from the back garden tossed into delicious steaming dishes. Directly on the beach, drinks and snacks are served from late morning until late evening at the resort's Beach Club. Completing the holistic circle, Spa at Papaya Playa uses Mayan shaman secrets, going beyond the usual wellness offerings, with the aim to nurture the mind just as much as the body. The spa is a vibrant indoor and outdoor space on the beach, where in addition to massages and beauty treatments, you can also enjoy yoga, tai chi, meditation, as well as experience a traditional Mexican sweat lodge.

Being linked to the best DJs in the world, music is a key component of the experience with impromptu jam sessions in the sand and ambient beats at the spa. The Tribal Room, a temporary creative space helmed by Till Harter of Bar Tausend fame, launched at Papaya Playa Project to coincide with the end of the Mayan Cycle. Here, you can order a paintbrush with their drink or take in the creativity of others through rotating curated exhibitions. All communal areas encourage creative collaboration, there is even a natural amphitheatre on the beach, where guests can come together to perform, present or communicate in their chosen fashion with music, readings, inspiring lectures and more.
