MEET THE ORIGINAL: EMMANUELLE DE CLERMONT TONNERRE
Emmanuelle de Clermont Tonnerre is the French-born owner of the Insólito Boutique Hotel. She came to Brazil in 2004 with her husband Philippe Meeus, a Belgian entrepreneur. The stunning setting of their new beachfront home inspired her to change career paths from being a practicing lawyer to a host, and she set about converting their house into a hotel. Emmanuelle never looked back and her natural talent has been recognized by the renowned guide Condé Nast Johansens, which voted Insólito one of the best luxury hotels in Latin America. Her passion for Brazilian culture is clearly visible in the fantastic mixture of antique and modern furniture, artefacts and design elements that she has selected for Insólito. Whether referencing music, photography, literature, nature, history, art or fashion, it is clear that a true Renaissance Woman lies behind the experience guests are enjoying. Emmanuelle, who in 2010 won the Veuve Cliquot Business Woman of the Year Award, explains “I wanted to allow clients to take a trip through the element of decoration; to discover the beauty and to understand this fascinating country”.
