MEET THE ORIGINAL: PEDRO MARQUES
Born in 1979, founder Pedro Marques is originally a trained engineer, who traded his homeland Portugal for the bustling city of Rio de Janeiro in 2006. What he didn’t know then, is that his Master’s studies in Marketing from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro, would finally lead him to open up Kenoa, a stone’s throw away from his parent’s beloved holiday home in Barra de São Miguel. What’s more, Marques turned his lack of hospitality experience into his benefit, building up his dream project from scratch with a precise personal view. ‘I deliberately steered clear from visiting rivaling hotels, as my main objective was to create a private sanctuary that would provide everything I personally long for.’ Kenoa is the compelling story of a visionary who followed his gut feeling, relying on his family to act as a sounding board. Beyond that, he employed friends and local creatives, training them on-site, not fearing the unknown.
