Cape Town, dramatically located at the foot of Table Mountain, is considered one of the world’s most beautiful cities.

Its difficult history is addressed in the District 6 museum, a multiracial neighbourhood that was destroyed by the apartheid regime in the 1970’s; the resulting empty land remains as a scar in the city to this day. There are many fine museums and theatres in town; the colourful Bo-Kaap, formerly a Malay quarter, has a museum explaining the history of local Muslim settlers. There are also many townships in the outskirts of the city, among them Khayelitsha, which has a tourist centre.
