Raymond Morel
Christiane Derory
Christine Derory and Raymond Morel have done it again: the designer duo behind the Murano Paris has created yet another celebration of contemporary chic, cosy comfort and sophisticated elegance, this time at the edge of the Moroccan desert. Combining European design sensibilities with traditional Moroccan aesthetics, Derory and Morel created modern interiors with a North African flair contained within a palatial Moorish exterior. Facades feature typical red-pisé walls and arched oval windows, while suites boast white stucco walls, billowing white curtains and burgundy accents. Canopied king-sized beds hung with gauzy material are the room centrepieces, though open fireplaces, tables hand-painted with roses and black marbled bathrooms make an equally lasting impression. The most powerful design element, however, is the dazzling contrast between red and white that pervades the resort and grounds. Nowhere is this palette more stunningly expressed than in the resort foreground: set amidst leafy green trees, the red-tiled back-lit pool enhances the brilliant whites and reds of the pool-bar furniture, made exclusively for Murano by French design agency « La COX ».
Produced in Morocco using the most advanced industrial techniques, these outdoor lounge chairs also serve to echo the restaurant decor inside, which is based on white stucco walls, red armchairs and traditional Moroccan bejmat flooring.
