Jason Miller began his career as an artist after graduating from school with an MFA. Soon he discovered his interest in three-dimensional designs and domesticity, eventually making the transition into designing furniture and interiors. After a stint at Karim Rashid’s studio, he set up his own practice, where the idea behind a product is always the primary concern. Materials, often, are just a means to an end. Beyond his own work, Miller reflects on the larger developments in the design world, as he’s done recently in an exhibition he curated and designed for interior design trade show Ambiente in Frankfurt, Germany.

"I’ve been designing food concepts ever since I graduated from The Design Academy in 2000. Bases for my work is the verb: ‘to eat’. Which means I don’t just think about the food on the plate (is there even a plate?) but about everything relating to it. The atmosphere, the ambient sounds, the dining company, the story behind the ingredients, the preparation, the eater, the service, the taste and texture, but also the scent, colour and sound of the food itself. I look at the effect ingredients have on the body and the road an ingredient takes from seed to shit. By working on many different projects, it became clear that Food-design ('eating-design') for me is about approaching food from different angles. In essence, my projects can be broken down into 8 different starting points that have either been applied parallel to each other or (which is more often the case) mixed together. These ‘8 points of inspiration’ are 8 different angles for a designer to approach food. Each point houses thousands of different possibilities, combinations and new idea: Senses, Chemistry, Culture, Technique/material, Grow, Psychology, The action of food, Society".

The Foodists stand for artistic concepts and productions in the context of food. Way beyond the aspect of mere maintenance, it is rather a matter of seducing the guest with and by food, and using it as a communicative and atmospheric element.

By integrating art, design and choreographic elements, the Foodists develop concepts that address all senses and reach beyond one´s own nose. As a result of a close collaboration between creative food concept designer Telse Bus and creative chef Martin Schanninger, these concepts are mainly designed for event settings.

Furthermore the Foodists present food in combination with artwork in their 'tasting room' CASCETTE - A ROOM. Here, the focus is to integrate art into the meal by joining and merging the two in a creative way. The playful interaction between artists, guests, chefs and food build a unique and thrilling event. It is the image of the integrated whole that remains with the participants.

Telse Bus dicovered Food as her medium while studying art. Inspired by shamanism, she started using materials as communication tools and ended up working with food, the most 'democratic' among all materials. For her, the artistic aspect about food is what takes place while eating together, what happens between the lines - the ritual of eating together.

Martin Schanninger discovered his passion for designing food through his fascination for pictures. His inclination to visualisation brought him from filming to cooking. As a scholar of Kolja Kleeberg her learned to know Telse Bus while working together on the food concept for the Volkswagen FOX restaurant in Copenhagen. The focus of his actual work is on translating abstract pictures in recipes, menus and presentations.

Within the Future Forum Cooking Art Performance the Foodists will cooperate with barkeeper Mario Grünfelder from Berlin´s hot spot “Bar Tausend”. Just like cooking, for him the art of mixing different ingredients to compose a drink has to do with passion. His creations surprise by the handling of
elaborate recipes that he mixes on the spot. For his creativity and competency in mixing unusual cocktail recipes he received the “mixology bar award” as “most creative mixing-expert in Germany, Austria and Switzerland”.
