A distillation of modern and traditional design styles, the Chedi Chiang Mai has a clear sense of purpose: a resort hotel in an urban locale on the banks of the Mae Ping river. The former British Consulate compound provides a colonial superstructure in which 52 deluxe rooms and 32 Chedi Club suites overlook a self-contained spa environment. The hotel’s restaurant, complete with two bars, occupies the original consulate building.
Guestrooms are finished in a confident blend of wood and stone surfaces and rattan furniture, set into soft relief by modern recessed lighting. Club Chedi suites include large seating areas complete with lounge, dining space and al fresco balcony dining areas. Spa treatments are customized for the hotel, including the Chedi Massage, a fusion of five different massage styles. Should this fail to wear you out, river tours and elephant treks can fill the day, but the Chedi’s understated luxuries could just as easily fill up a stay in Chiang Mai. |
