IN A NUTSHELL

This role supports the Regional Director - Account Management & Sales APAC and Global Brand Portfolio Director with the qualitative and strategic curation of the Design Hotels member portfolio in APAC. The addition of new, on-strategy hotels, in alignment with the selection criteria, is one of the principal drivers of Design Hotels’ revenue and an important element in evolving the product quality, distribution power and ultimately the brand equity of Design Hotels. The Brand Portfolio APAC Director will develop an in-market member hotel acquisition strategy for APAC, and increase physical presence in high-potential APAC markets and conduct site inspections, build relationships with the existing and potential Design Hotels owner community. Success in the position demands a proactive disposition, a willingness to champion new business opportunities, an enthusiasm for working on a small, focused team whilst understanding the wider scope of the Marriott environment, a good brand understanding, excellent communication skills and a passion for hospitality.

 

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy

  • Expand the Design Hotels member portfolio with on-brand properties across APAC

Tasks / Complexity

  • Define and execute in-market strategy to sourcing potential new member hotels in the region that translate into a strong pipeline of on-brand Design Hotels leads 
  • Strategically identify key growth markets, find potential on-brand member hotels and connect with owners and key representatives
  • Engage prospective on-strategy hotels and identify their needs, opportunities, and goals to match them with our value proposition and services
  • Review membership applications, evaluate the potential for Design Hotels and approve together with responsible teams 
  • Conduct brand fit assessment for new potential members in alignment with Design Hotels Global Brand Portfolio strategy. This includes:
    • Collecting and reviewing relevant hotel information, exchange with owners / reps, pitching Design Hotels value proposition, preparing tailored presentations, creating case studies
    • Increase physical presence in high-potential APAC markets and conduct site Inspections (40%-60% travel required)
    • Build strong relationships & engagement with the existing and potential Design Hotels owner community
  • Collaborate closely with the Marriott Development Team and support throughout the deal signing process 
  • Grow the network of influential players in the independent hospitality sector and creative industry e.g. Architecture & Design
  • Monitor competitors as well as regions market size and trends
  • Diligently track communication with prospective clients through our hotel CRM tool
  • Align with all relevant departments within the organization to ensure smooth workflow and stay updated on new services and developments
  • Demonstrate a solution driven approach to the sales process

Stakeholder Management

    • Act as a brand partner and collaborator to APAC Marriott Development Team 
    • Align on global strategy with Design Hotels Global Brand Portfolio at HQ
    • Engage with existing and new owners

 

EXPERIENCE & MINDSET

Portfolio and Business Development

  • Formulating, implementing and driving a market specific strategy to create value through the pursuit of new projects, a proactive disposition required
  • Excellent knowledge of the Asian hospitality markets and its key players in the different subregions and countries within the boutique hotel market
  • Understanding of Brand Equity and well-versed in both, the creative and commercial side of a business organization
  • In-depth understanding of the regional business landscape in travel / hospitality

Competencies

  • Strong understanding of different Asian markets, cultures and the right intercultural approach
  • Creative, design-oriented, culturally aware, understanding of local and global aesthetics, aware of key trends / at the pulse of the time
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills being able to adjust to audiences - corporate environment and creative, independently minded individuals.
  • High performing, collaborative solution provider and proactive decision maker
  • Strong interpersonal skills, empathetic, enthusiastic, collaborator, excels in building new relationships and instilling trust 

Other skills and prerequisites

  • Fluent in English, additional Asian languages are beneficial
  • Willing to travel as needed up to 40-60% 

Business Understanding

  • Passion for Design Hotels’ ethos and a solid understanding of the business

Degree / Experience

    • 7+ years of experience in business development, owner relations, creative / brand or related field in travel or hospitality
    • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, hospitality or related field
