There are a number of colonial buildings and examples for many different styles of architecture, but Singapore’s dominating style is modern, especially in the business district. Landmark structures include the Esplanade theatres (2002), a performing arts centre resembling the eyes of a fly, the postmodernistic skyscrapers at Raffles Place, and the historic and colourful Sri Mariamman Temple, founded in 1827. The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) operates a city gallery.
